
After more than ten years of friendship, mayor barbara naveau and mayor elmar henke sealed the partnership between their communities in the town hall of dizy, in the department of marne. A delegation of 30 people from sommerach went to france.
In the town hall, which according to a press release from the municipality of sommerach was finely decorated, dizy elementary school students read out the text of the document, which reads, among other things: "the municipalities of dizy and sommerach declare their common will to strengthen the friendship between the neighboring peoples through the union of the municipalities and thus to make a contribution to a europe united in peace and freedom"."Members of the town council, the chairman of the twinning committee, jean paul germain, and the former mayor of dizy, jean marie lallement, were also present when mayor naveau looked back over ten years with a picture show. In his speech, mayor elmar henke confirmed that the partnership has been successful for 31 years. August 2002 and is to be continued.
The on-site visit program in france showed the sommerachers the diverse structures of the municipality of dizy and the charming vineyard landscape of the vallee de la marne region. In addition, six wineries surprised the delegation and presented their range of champagne for tasting. Visits to the former benedictine monastery of hautvillers, where the first champagne was produced around 1670, and to the dizyer champagne house gaston chiquet rounded off the program.
The sommerach music band, led by hubert jakob, organized a "french-bavarian evening" in the parish hall. The delegation was led by rainer gundert, who also took them to the monument at verdun and to the city of reims. Student eva gundert acted as interpreter. A return visit was arranged to the wine festival in sommerach in 2019.
